Chapter 20

Trey

We sat in the car in the restaurant parking lot, a bag of leftovers and cannoli in the back seat.

“This place is amazing,” she said. “And not for nothing, but they could serve a quarter of their portions and it would be a full meal.”

“Agreed. It’s not very often I take home leftovers.”

“Thank you for getting the cannoli to go.”

“I know you were looking forward to it.”

I started the car, but before I pulled out, I wanted to ask her something and I want to be facing her when I do it. Shifting so I could look directly at her, I took her hand in mine and entwined our fingers.

“Nori, this dating and relationship thing is all new to me so I’m going to need you to let me know if I ever do or say anything that upsets you or makes you uncomfortable.”

“Okay.” A sweet smile crossed her face. “But just in case you’re wondering, you’re doing great so far. Perfect, in fact.”

“I appreciate that.” And I really hope she still thinks that after this conversation. “Tonight has been great and I was hoping we could spend some more time together. Alone. The problem is that you live with Crispin and now Eloise and I live in a hotel.”

Her eyes widened as she seemed to understand where I was heading.

“My room is a suite so there’s a whole sitting area with a TV and even a mini kitchen. It’s not like I’m staying at a pay-by-the-hour no-tell motel.”

She laughed at that and I relaxed a little bit.

“So I was wondering if you’d come back to my place so we could spend more time together. Maybe talk or watch a movie.”

“I’d like that.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

After that, we took what seemed like the slowest ride known to man back to my hotel. I found a parking spot then used my keycard to let us in through a side door. It’s the entrance I’ve been using not only because I see less people but also because the elevator right inside brings me only a few doors from my room.

Once we got to my floor, I led her down the hall, and opened the door, stepping aside for Nori to enter in front of me. She looked around then glanced over her shoulder at me as I closed the door.

“This is really nice. At least you have more than a bed and a bathroom since you’re staying here long term.”

“Yeah, it’s not too bad, but I’m definitely ready for my own place.” I gestured for her to have a seat on the couch. “Would you like a drink?”

“No, thank you. I’m good.”

Sitting next to her, I grabbed the remote off the end table and switched on the TV. Flipping on the guide, I scrolled through.

“Just yell if you see something that interests you,” I said.

She pointed to the screen. “Oh that. I love these home shows. They crack me up.”

I put on the show she requested and we sat there watching in silence until the commercial break.
